Some love it, other hate it. Many wonder how does it really feel to live in the Big Apple? Is NYC really so expensive? Some people like to live cheap (renting a small room in Brooklyn for $600) for others $2000 flat with additional $1500 for food & fun won’t be enough. With its endless options, in NYC there is no spending limit!
In New York everything is a mixture. While passing Central Park you notice runners, cyclers and all the active humans burning calories in sport clothes. Moving to the downtown Manhattan, you can run into elegant Wall Street guys with shiny shoes. Passing Vogue office you will see fashionable elite and it-girls. Simply, there is no pattern or one dress code for this city. You can meet the most colorful and crazy dressed people on this planet. Each district is different, even each corner! There is such a variety of people – old & young, from all over the world – living, working or just visiting. It’s a kind of cultural mix, where everybody fit.
Central Park – my fav spot for a morning run
Stuff like pizza, fast food, candies, chocolates – all that carb shit is really cheap. But if you want to eat a healthy and nutritious meal, you need to pay dearly. There are cool places to buy organic & fresh food like whole foods market but it will empty your pockets. Be prepared to wait in long queues, too. Definitely it’s not an option for people living on the budget. A good salad at Hale & Heart can cost you $12, add a Siggi’s yogurt, some raspberries, water and it’s already over $22 and you just made it till lunch! The cool thing in NYC is that you can get every type of food you want, really EVERY. In a mood for Chinese? Just go to Chinatown. Sushi in the middle of the night? Easy.
THIS CITY NEVER SLEEPS. All shops have long opening hours, the same goes with restaurants, clubs and bars. Definitely you will not starve or get bored here. The only thing you need in this city is money and a good guide to show you the best spots. There is a thing, not all expensive places in NYC are good, and actually some of them are crap so you need to know where to go.
My fav Gelato at Columbus Circle
There is no other city in the world like NY. Of course it’s dirty. Of course is loud and crowded. Especially if you visit touristic spots like Times Square, you cannot move there in the night, during the day neither. BUT WHAT DO YOU EXPECT??! It’s a big city, not a lovely town. Be ready to see dirty, stinky trash bags on the streets at night and during the day. Be ready to see homeless people on the streets.
The most crowded spot in NYC – Times Square
But you know what’s the worst? Traffic! During the rush hours taxi, Uber, private car is not an option, metro is the only one left. Well, in summer you will feel there like in hell. Literally, it’s hot like hell in there, crowded, stinky, a lot of people on drugs too. That’s the reality.
My second fav running spot – Brooklyn Bridge
Crossing the light on red is a tradition, even police does it, but be careful though, people drive here like crazy too.
Having money and friends you can count on here, this could be the most exciting and beautiful city in the world. You must also live in a good area. Downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn Heights are probably the coolest to stay in if you don’t want to see bloody tourists all the time. Upper East Side is sophisticated, but also a bit boring. Life is where the cool places and great people are. But, if you are broke and alone, life sucks here more than in any other city. WHY? Because at every step you take, you see all those things you could have and a life you could live.
I am always blinded by the sun at Columbus Circle
I am in love with sunsets with a view on Brooklyn Bridge
The most artistic corner of NYC – Lincoln Center
A dream ad spot for any agency 🙂
