It was a rainy Thursday evening when we decided to get out of the city for a weekend. I was so fed up with this lousy awful weather, I just needed a little change. After checking the possible railway connections, we picked a small town called Trento in South Tyrol as our weekend getaway destination. The journey from Munich Hauptbahnhof took us around 4,5 hours. Supplied with snacks and engaging Murakami’s novels, we didn’t even notice passing the Austrian – Italian border. As soon as we got off the train at Stazione di Trento – surprise, surprise – it was still raining. Nevertheless, we figured that 20 min walk to the hotel will probably not kill us (unfortunately, there were some victims – my favorite Toms espadrilles). Soaked & wet we finally reached NH Hotel Trento, one of the prettiest hotels I have seen!

Via Adalberto Libera, 38121 Trento, Italy

  250€ for two night

NH Hotel Trento opened quite recently as a part of Le Albere complex. The whole district was built on the terrain formerly seized by Michelin factory. After the workshop shut down, the area had grown into a complete wasteland until the Trento authorities decided to reconnect this massive area with the city center. The whole new district of Le Albere and the hotel itself were designed by an Italian genius, Renzo Piano, who preserved the original industrial character of the neighbourhood. Therefore, Le Albere is a self-sufficient &  environment-friendly mini city holding over 300 apartments, offices and stores. This energy efficient complex is now Trento’s cultural and recreation centre with astonishing MUSE Museo delle Scienze, located just five minutes from NH Hotel. Surrounded with green areas and small canals, it perfectly unites the Adige River and the natural mountain landscape.

Founded in 1978 by the Spanish entrepreneur Antonio Catalán Díaz, NH Hotel Group owns almost 400 hotels in 30 different countries including Italy, Argentina and South Africa. Their hotels are widely known for its modern design and beautifully decorated rooms. If you are a fan of more traditional decor – NH Hotel in Trento is probably not a good choice.

Once I entered NH Hotel, I must say, I was amazed by its elegant & stylish design. It spreads a pleasant sensation of harmony & an open space thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows providing the natural lighting during the whole day. I loved the mirrors, sofas and ceiling lights – everything is being kept in bright colours and circular shapes. I felt so comfortable in the lobby area that I stayed there for a little while, enjoying free snacks and a glass of vermouth on the rocks, which never fails to turn on my summer mood.

The NH Hotel’s rooms should easily meet your expectations. They are absolutely clean, with wooden floors and vanilla-shaded walls and the view overlooking the building next door and partially the Alps. The one tiny minus is that you can’t open the window fully. Wait, have you seen the bathroom? It’s really cool and there is enough space for you and all my cosmetics! Meanwhile large & comfortable bed offers space for two more friends of yours, the third one could easily fit in the big bathtub 🙂

Fitness center is pretty standard, you can find there treadmill, elliptical trainer, dumbbell handles and of course stationary bikes. It’s a pity that all the machines are placed next to the wall – unfortunately there are no windows.

Although the NH Hotel building has only four floors, the lift goes very slowly. It’s better to take stairs if you don’t want to ruin your mood before the breakfast – and this one is a strong advantage of NH Hotel in Trento. Breakfast menu is vast: you may opt for different types of fine cheese & Italian ham, delicious scrambled eggs or a crunchy granola with dry fruits and nuts for those of you who want to stay fit. I was positively surprised to find some super Italian delicacies such as focaccia or panna cotta. All my sweet mouth brothers & sisters, NH Hotel in Trento didn’t forget about us 🙂 Those who love their breakfast to be sweet may choose from several varieties of croissants. Just don’t begrudge yourself these sweet treats! You need a decent energy boost for hiking in the picturesque alpine corners.
